After the soft emotional moment between both of them, they went to the dining room together.
Huo Yan was already seated, and seeing both of them walk together, her eyes brightened.
"Gege, Sister-in-law," she called out happily. Although her smile was not as bright as it was, it felt nice to see her having a smile on her face.
"Good morning, Yanyan. Did you sleep well?" Yue Ning asked as she took a seat beside her. They were the only ones at the dining table.
"I slept well. What about you, Sister-in-law? You have a light blush on your face, I’m pretty sure you must have slept well." Huo Yan teased.
The blush on Yue Ning’s face deepened, and she lowered her gaze. Googlᴇ search NoveI[F]ire.net
Huo Feng calmly swept his gaze over Huo Yan who shut her mouth instantly.
Huo Feng nodded satisfactorily, and calmly gestured to the maids to serve the dishes.
After the maids finished, Huo Fei and Huo Mingjie joined the table. The siblings didn’t bother to greet them as they asked the maids to serve them.
Huo Yan looked at the two, and she let out a loud sneer which caught Huo Fei’s attention.
"What is it now?" Huo Fei glanced at her as she questioned her.
Huo Yan twirled her hair, and answered. "The air was quite good before you both arrived."
Huo Fei glared at her, "what do you mean by that?"
Huo Yan’s playful smirk deepened. "I think you know what I mean, dearest Cousin."
"You!" Huo Fei’s chest rose and fell rapidly as she pointed at Huo Yan who raised her brows.
Yue Ning secretly held her hands, and whispered. "Don’t annoy her further."
Huo Yan smiled at Yue Ning, and nodded.
Huo Mingjie looked at Huo Feng who calmly ate his food, and his hands clenched on his laps.
’It won’t be long before I take your place. Just wait,’ he thought to himself, his eyes glinting viciously.
Yue Ning noticed the look in his eyes, and she narrowed her eyes. She calmly retracted her gaze, and focused on her meal.
Halfway through breakfast, a servant interrupted them.
"Young Master, a few guests have come to visit you. They said they have something important to discuss with you and Young Madam."
The servant relayed the message with his head bowed.
Huo Feng and Yue Ning exchanged glances, and they could see the same question in each other’s eyes.
"We will be there soon." Huo Feng replied. "And also, kindly lead them to the smaller living room, and make sure you treat them properly." He added.
The servant nodded, and left the dining table.
"It is quite early. Who could have gone to visit you and Sister-in-law?" Huo Yan murmured.
Yue Ning wiped her lips, and answered. "We will know if we meet them."
She and Huo Feng rose to their feet simultaneously, and were about to leave when Huo Yan stopped them.
"I will go with you."
Huo Yan and Yue Ning walked hand in hand. Before long, they reached the smaller room with Huo Feng being in front of them.
The trio were surprised to find the entire Lu family in the living room.
There were cups of tea in front of them, but none of them touched it as their eyes were focused on the door as though they were waiting for someone. Technically, they were.
When they saw Yue Ning at the door, their faces lit up. Lu Ting was the first to get up from the sofa. Her eyes were filled with yearning and unshed tears.
"Xiao Ning..." She sobbed silently. Lu Jiang also rose to his feet, consoling her while staring at their long list daughter.
Huo Feng took all of these in, and calmly led Yue Ning to have a seat. Looking at the expressions on each member, he seemed to understand what was going on.
Lu Ting’s eyes were on Yue Ning till she had her seat.
"Mr. Lu, please have your seat." Huo Feng gestured to the sofa behind them, and they shakily took their seats.
"To what may I owe this visit? And that too... quite early," Huo Feng asked, a hint of smile in his usually dull eyes.
Lu Jiang didn’t reply. Instead, he glanced at Lu Quan who understood the meaning behind his gaze. He immediately dropped a few files on the table.
Yue Ning looked at the documents on the table, and her heart skipped a bit, though her expression was still calm.
"Firstly, Young Master Huo, accept our deepest condolences, and also our apologies. We were unable to show up for your Grandmother’s funeral."
Huo Feng shook his head, indicating that he didn’t mind. He wasn’t a petty person after all.
"Ever since my wife’s birthday, we’ve been investigating a few things." He paused, and his attention shifted to the girl seated beside Huo Feng. She bore a striking resemblance to his wife, and she was his... daughter.
"And after our investigation, we came to realize a few things. Such as Yue Ning not being the biological daughter of the Yues, she was handed over to them at the age of four."
Yue Ning’s heart skipped a beat. So... they were also investigating her. She thought to herself.
"Yesterday, I invited the Yue couple, and they confessed that she was truly handed to them. Although it is conclusive that she is our daughter from their confession, we needed evidence, one which my wife found."
"How?" Huo Yan blurted out.
Lu Ting wiped her tears as she explained what she had done the previous day.
With each word, Yue Ning’s heart pounded harder, her fingers curling into tight fists on her lap. She listened carefully, unsure if she was ready to accept this truth.
"If you don’t believe me, this is the report from the doctor." She stopped to wipe her tears which kept falling. Sniffing, she continued. "I assure you that no one knows about this at the hospital, and the results can’t be tampered with."
Yue Ning’s eyes flickered to the envelope, but she quickly looked away as though it burned her. Her chest rose and fell unevenly, and her breath turned shallow.
Lu Ting’s gaze never left her face. Tears streamed freely now, her voice breaking as she whispered, "You are truly our daughter... our Xiao Ning."
Yue Ning’s heart clenched, but her expression remained passive. This was what she had been searching for, wasn’t it? The truth... her origin.
And yet, instead of relief, a storm churned inside her. She had imagined this moment countless times, but now that it was here, she realized—she didn’t know how to accept it.
Her lips curved into a faint, unreadable smile. "So, it has finally been confirmed," she murmured, her tone calm but distant. Nobody knew what was running through her mind, not even the system who was bound to her.
Lu Ting sobbed harder, reaching as if to take her hand. But before she could, Huo Feng’s hand closed over Yue Ning’s first.
His deep gaze swept over the Lus, sharp and unreadable, his voice low but laced with warning. "She has heard you. But whether she accepts you... is her decision. Don’t force her."
Yue Ning’s fingers trembled beneath his hold, but she didn’t pull away. For now, she needed that anchor.
