The female human steered the spaceship with uncanny precision.
Beep beep
[ Alert. Alert. Spaceship is currently moving at a speed dangerous for travel.
It is recommended that the user slows down, else the gears will be overrun and explode. Estimated time of explosion if advice is not heeded, 5 minutes ]
" You gotta be kidding me " the female human cursed, ignoring the alarm as she narrowly evaded a falling skyscraper that almost landed on the ship with a hair’s breath.
The spaceship moved with blinding speed, akin to a shooting star.
Kailen ignored the alarm, his mind spinning as he tried to think of ideas out of this situation. Not only was an enemy destroying spaceships in the vicinity, there was also the problem of the spaceship being destroyed in the next five minutes if they kept travelling at this blinding speed.
" Let me drive " Kailen finally came up with the best possible solution.
The lady was stronger than him. She could stand watch and deal with any threats that loomed their way. As for the idea that she would kill him, it was out of the picture. In this situation, she needed him as much as he needed her.
He didn’t even need to explain the reason why he wanted to drive to her, as she understood him perfectly. She’d be dumb to not read his train of thought. She stood up , letting Kailen take over the wheel.
She stood at the edge of the spaceship, as waves of energy undulated from her figure.
Quickly, several buildings about crashing into the spaceship seemed to have come to halt as the energy undulating from her figure pulsed towards the buildings. The buildings suddenly seemed to float for a few moments before Kailen managed to use that window of opportunity to steer the spaceship through the space created from her timely intervention.
" You have this affinity to control objects? Why didn’t you use it in the first place? " Kailen asked. What the hell was wrong with this woman!
" I was driving because you threatened to detonate yourself alongside me, remember? "
Kailen kept quiet. She was right. Anyway, now was not the time for such nonsensities.
" Oh no " Kailen quickly bellowed, as he saw a large sabre light headed their way through the rearview mirror of the spaceship. He had to move now or he’d die.
But this woman had something he could make use of - her affinity. As a matter of fact he needed it to survive, and for that matter;
" You are coming with me "
Quickly, he grabbed the hand of the female human.
Before she could even register what he meant, he shot out of the spaceship, holding her hand as several vines shot out of his figure, latched onto a falling skyscraper several kilometers away from them.
The force of the vines propelled them towards the skyscraper.
Sounds of explosions resounded behind them as their figures whizzed through the air above the city ravaged in flames and screams of its inhabitants.
Discerning the situation, the female human used her affinity to control the skyscraper they were propelled towards to float for a few moments before they landed on the top of the skyscraper.
In the distance, she could perceive their spaceship and several others, cut cleanly into half, falling and drowning into the flames of the city below.
" Let’s move. Here’s what we are gonna do - "
Before Kailen could even finish talking, she cut him off " I know the drill okay "
Kailen nodded, not offended. Each second wasted on words was a waste of time that could end them getting killed. Since she figured the plan he wanted them to use to exit the city, there was no need to waste time on words.
The duo floated in the air.
" Damn it, my AI chip got deactivated? "
The dwarves had really gone all out with their plan. Without the AI chip, she couldn’t contact anyone from her team outside the city and would be left here to die. Also, she didn’t have a map.
" We are on our own " Kailen said, snapping her out of her thoughts " Also I have the city map in mind. Focus or else you are gonna get us killed "
The duo moved, whizzing through the air from time to time as they had no option but to latch onto one another for the plan to work.
The female human would use her affinity to halt the advance of certain buildings and objects that would attempt to drown them into the fire of the city, clearing a path for them.
Kailen would also manage to use his vines to propel their movements forward with speed.
They couldn’t afford to fly too high or they’d be easy targets for the dwarves destroying the spaceships. They used the smoke and fire generated from the destruction of the city to obscure their movements and visibility. Also, Kailen had wrapped them both in his vines in a way that made it look like they were some sort of plants.
However, flying at a lower altitude made them feel the searing heat of the city. The duo felt like they were in hell.
Kailen chugged down several universe energy recovery elixirs from time to time to replenish his universe energy reserves.
The female human did the same thing. They both had to be in their peak condition for the plan to work.
They had been travelling for thirty minutes now. So far they had been fine, except for the searing heat that pervaded their bodies, and the occasional skirmishes with buildings almost crushing into them and grinding them into meat paste.
" Finally " Kailen figured it was time to use his teleportation rune again. It had been thirty minutes. His spiritual power has been restored.
Just then, massive explosions resounded from several kilometers beneath them, almost drowning them in it.
Kailen quickly utilised a teleportation rune to teleport them four consecutive times away. ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ N()velFire.net
Several areas of their bodies had been roasted from the sheer heat of the explosion, causing them immense pain. But they had managed to escape the brush with death.
" Seriously, if I survive this, I’m gonna go on a fifty year seclusion " the female human sighed as she used her affinity to clear a path for them ahead.
Kailen lightly chuckled, before he added.
" Let’s hope we survive for the next thirty minutes. Your fifty year seclusion depends on it, because the next teleportation gate that will take us out of this city, is ahead of us and in about thirty minutes we’d be where it is ".
